PIVOT is a book for everyone, but as one of Ravi’s brothers, reading it was extra special. Ravi’s life experiences are poignant reminders that each of us is impacted by countless factors beyond our control. Our Indian ancestors were freedom fighters who became political leaders. But they might have been subsistence farmers. Ravi wrote a Christmas card one day that may have led to his joining a world-famous band. But he might have run a mundane errand that day. Ravi’s future wife was the stage manager the night he performed in a nightclub. But she might not have shelved her other plans to fill in for someone else. And what if Ravi had been piloting his plane at the very moment he lost his balance; he surely would have exited more than just the aviation industry! Such factors come to define our lives, for better or for worse, unless we pivot. Ravi describes how we can embrace the cards we’re dealt by first deciding on a destination and then continuously evaluating and course-correcting while in its pursuit. And importantly, he urges us to recognize that often, we should change the destination we’ve chosen. If we heed Ravi’s advice, we’re more likely to become the architects and beneficiaries of a happy and fulfilling life.
